A coordinated team will mow down an uncoordinated one,
and in free for all, a determined and aggressive
player will win. Know when to be cautious and when to
be aggressive, and how to support your team (if any).

Team
Strategy. Your
team is your backup, your only support. But they rely
on you as well. Knowing how to rely on your team and
let them rely on you is the key to victory in a team
game. A two man squad can defeat an entire team
through tactics and coordination. Find a buddy and
stick with him like your other half. Know his voice,
listen and talk to him. Devise tactics, and stay
grouped up with him. If one of you dies, find each
other. But don't stay too close, as a well placed
grenade or rocket can take you both out. Remember your
team color; doing a melee and looking at your arm will
let you know if you forget. Watch your team's back,
and if your buddy is getting shot at, take out his
attacker. If you or your buddy have a sniper rifle,
try hunter-killer tactics: have one of them act as a
hunter and go out and find targets while the sniper
(killer) takes them down as they come after the
hunter. In CTF, defend the guy with the flag. Defend
him with your life, literally-- take shots for him. If
no one is there, stand guard far enough away that he
has some advance warning to get out of there if you
fall.
FFA
Strategy. Aggressiveness
is the key in FFA. Hiding or lying in wait will do you
no good-- you have to be the predator. Don't be afraid
of dying. If you die, you respawn and go back to what
you were doing. If you hide, you accomplish nothing.
No kills in Slayer, no time in KOTH or Oddball. Don't
search for guns; you will only waste time you could
kill enemies with otherwise. Remember that the enemy's
motion tracker doesn't paint you unless you are
moving, so use that to your advantage. If you see him
first and you know he is coming your way, stop and
hide. He will continue to advance, not seeing you,
until you shove your shotgun down his throat. When you
have a specific target, go after him rather than
killing other people. They may be willing to help you
take him down. Also, the best kind of firefight to get
involved in is one where two people are fighting but
have not yet killed each other. The best thing to do
is take one down swiftly, before they see you; then
you can take out the other at your leisure, since he
is likely to be wounded. "Hey, thanks for helping
me-- GAHHHH!" Cheap? Maybe. But effective. Not
recommended if you're going for props and not just
points.
